Custom Jewelry for a Black Tie Plantation Wedding

Jamie Edwards & Fran Johnson

Combahee Plantation // Yemassee, SC

It’s Wedding Wednesday and I am so excited to reveal Jamie Edwards and Fran Johnson’s wedding.  Jamie and Fran both grew up in Mt. Pleasant, SC and were high school sweethearts.  They attended University of South Carolina and have been together for over eleven years. I was happy to help when Jamie contacted me to customize jewelry for her nine bridesmaids, mom, and mother in law.

What They Wore…

Jamie knew that she wanted a bold earring for the beautiful white and blush Joanna August bridesmaids dresses from Bella Bridesmaid.  After her design consultation, she decided on the large ornate brushed gold quatrefoils with a white freshwater pearl teardrop.  For Jamie’s sister and matron of honor, I designed a special pair of earrings with a brushed silver link, clear quartz teardrop, and a pale pink freshwater pearl.  Jamie also wanted to make special bracelets for her mother and mother in law to wear the day of the ceremony.  She picked out two gorgeous crystal clasps that were accented with multiple strands of white freshwater pearls.

Jamie  found her beautiful (and amazing!) strapless Monique Lhuillier dress from Maddison Row, a local Charleston bridal boutique.  Check out the photos below by Clay Austin Photography who did an amazing job capturing Jamie and Fran’s black tie soiree at the historic Combahee Plantation.

Pearl Bridesmaids Necklaces for a Classic Southern Wedding

Kinsey Query & Collins Atkinson

Mt. Pleasant, SC

I was so excited when long time client and friend, Kinsey Query asked me to design custom bridesmaids necklaces for her best friends to wear on her wedding day.  A few months before the wedding, Kinsey and her mom came to my studio and we decided on the design and the materials for the bridesmaids necklaces.  The girls wore Bella Bridesmaids strapless dresses with a sweetheart neckline.  Kinsey wanted the girls to have statement necklaces since they had such an open neckline.  I created nine bridesmaids necklaces with white freshwater coin pearls, grey freshwater pearls, and silver components and clasps.

Kinsey and Collins tied the knot in our hometown of Mt. Pleasant, SC.  The wedding ceremony was at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and they danced the night away at their reception at Harborside East overlooking the Charleston Harbor.  How killer is Kinsey’s Amsale wedding dress!?!  Here are a few photos from Hyer Images of their beautiful wedding day.

Inside the Hermosa Jewelry Studio + Showroom

I am so excited to finally reveal the Hermosa Jewelry Studio and Showroom!  It took about a month to get everything moved in, set up and organized, but I really am enjoying having my studio out of the house.  It has been a nice separation of my life and work– even though it does seem that I work all the time.  Moving is such a hassle, but it is so refreshing to purge things that you don’t need and organize your things into a functional space.  I share a space with A Simple Tree Custom Framing and Charleston Art Brokers, which are two local companies that you NEED to check out.  My studio is available to visit by appointment only, which allows me to schedule around my shows and time spent designing and manufacturing.  If you want to come shop for yourself or grab a quick gift you can now visit the Showroom.  I will also be scheduling appointments for custom orders as well bridal and wedding designs.

Last week was the Grand Opening party and we had such an amazing turnout. It was an absolute blast filled with friends, good food, cold drinks, and live music by These Old Souls.  Thank you to everyone who showed their support for this next step for me.  For those of you who couldn’t make it, I took some photos of my new space.  If you would like to come see the Hermosa Jewelry Studio + Showroom for yourself at 1304 Erckmann Drive, Suite D, Mt. Pleasant, SC.  Simply make an appointment with me via email ( or by phone (843.696.3449).  Enjoy your virtual tour!

I repurposed a 1950s Hamilton letterpress cabinet into a organized bead cabinet.  This took FOREVER, but was so worth it.  These shelves I bought on Craigslist and are from the oldest liquor store in downtown Charleston.  I sanded them down and stained them.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

The one special day of the year when we all stop to make brunch reservations and thank our Moms for being our Moms is here. Mother’s Day is this weekend. I personally have been so busy that I have not even thought about what to get the special lady in my life. I know most of you are busy as well, so I put together a gift guide. Whether you are on a budget or splurging for Mom, there is something sure to fit your price range on this list.

Wine Pairing Towel Set

Kills two birds with stone with this towel set. Not only will she be able to keep her kitchen tidy, but she can also pair dinner with the perfect bottle of wine.

Cravings by Chrissy Tegan

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Chrissy Tegan’s new cookbook, so grab mom a copy and get to cookin’ in the kitchen with her. Whipping up a Mother’s Day feast from the book can be the perfect celebration.

Seasonal Wreath Subscription

If your mom is like mine, she is always changing out the wreathes, so this will take some of the work off her. Get wreathes delivered to the front door for every season.

Champagne Flute Sets

I love these dainty champagne flutes that would be perfect for entertaining for girl’s night or for hosting a shower.

Brunch and Flowers

On a budget? Take your mom out for brunch of coffee and grab a bouquet of flowers from Trader Joe’s (they have beautiful cheap bouquets.  My favorite brunch spots in Charleston are Halls Chophouse, Southerly, and High Thyme.

Stox and Co Spa Day

Spa days are a great gift but can sometimes get a little pricey. If you have siblings this would be a great gift to go in on together. That way you can treat your mom to a “treat yourself day, without breaking the bank. PS-let her know to stop by the spa store to check out my Hermosa pieces sold there.

At the end of the day, your mom is not going to care what you get her, just set aside some time to spend with her, and tell her how much you love her.

Cheers to all the Moms out there.

Best Dressed and Best Jewels of the 2016 Oscars

In case you missed it, the Oscars was Sunday, and Hollywood royalty pulled out all the stops to remind you how fabulous they are. Highlights of the evening (in my opinion) were Spotlight (one of my favorite movies I have seen this year) pulling an upset to win Best Picture, Chris Rock selling his daughter’s Girl Scout cookies to the rich and famous, and of course, Leo finally winning an Oscar.

I was blown away  by the amount of hits and very few misses on the Oscars red carpet this year and thus had a hard time picking my best dressed and best jewels. There were, however, two standouts that hands down had killer head to toe Oscar looks:

Charlize Theron and Rachel McAdams

of Harry Winston diamonds

Rachel McAdams in an August Getty Atelier gown with diamond drop earrings

Comment below and tell me which look was your favorite!  Like I said before, it was hard to choose my favorite Oscars look as I thought everyone was a winner in my book. Now I just need to see all the winning films! Until next awards season!

Kayla Itsines Beach Body Guide

Yall, I have never been more excited about a fitness trend than I am about Kayla Itsines Beach Body Guide (BBG.) If you have not heard about Kayla or her workouts, here is a quick summary. Hailing from Adelaide, Australia, Kayla Itsines is a 24 year old personal trainer and fitness guru who has recently taken the workout industry by storm. Having worked at a “women’s only” training facility in Australia she quickly learned what women are constantly trying to achieve in body images and goals.

Kayla’s Berlin Bootcamp

Kayla Itsines founded the 12 week BBG program, and built a strong social media presence to share her fitness routines, tips, and healthy eating plans with others. She frequently shares her followers’ transformation pictures, which are truthfully what got me thinking “Hey, I can do this.” Her fans and followers are an inspiration, and she has a built a community that encourages each other to succeed.

I am not going to lie, these workouts are hard. BBG combines Resistance Training and LISS (low intensity steady state cardio). Resistance Training involves circuit training over a span of 28 minutes. Yes, 28 minutes is all it takes! You have two circuits each containing 4 exercises. Your goal is to do each exercise as many times as you can over the course of seven minutes, and then you move on to the second circuit. Each circuit is repeated twice. Think weighted squats, triceps dips, lunges, and push ups. If you are looking for a way to transform your body, build confidence, and feel amazing, I highly suggest trying her app. You can download it for a free 7 day trial, and after that pay about $5 per week for a 12 week subscription. In the meantime, I found a few of her free workouts online for you to check out.

SEWE Guide

I am so excited to once again have a booth at the 34th annual Southeastern Wildlife Exhibition this year in Downtown Charleston. SEWE is a three-day celebration of wildlife and nature through fine art, conservation education, sporting demonstrations, food, drink and the people who honor them all. It is the largest event of its kind in the country, and each year draws over 40,000 attendees from around the state and country. Raising over $50 million a year, SEWE’s positive impact on the Charleston community continues to grow as does its popularity with the locals. It provides easy and affordable access to wildlife and nature conservation programs, and increases awareness about the need to protect our natural environment. Most importantly, it celebrates nature and wildlife and promotes the preservation of it for generations to come.

Locations & Tickets

The three day event will take place in Marion Square, Charleston Place, the newly renovated Gaillard Center (where my booth will be located), and Brittlebank Park (where the dock dogs competition will be held).   Visit the tickets page to purchase your tickets for the weekend, and click here to learn more about parking and shuttle options.

SEWE 2015 | Hermosa Jewelry

Art and vendor exhibits are open from Friday to Sunday from 10 am until 6 pm.  There are demonstrations for just about anyone throughout each day: Birds of Prey flight demos, Jack Hanna presentations, Retreiver demos, cooking demos, and fly fishing demos.  For the full schedule, visit the events page at the SEWE official website.

The party doesn’t stop there.  Thursday night kicks off with a VIP Preview Gala and Sale, a black tie event at Charleston Place.  Other nightly events which require additional tickets include: SC Waterfowl Association Sportman’s Ball, SC Waterfowl Association Duck Shuck Oyster Roast and the SEWE Soiree.

I’ll leave you with a couple of video recaps from SEWE from last year!  I hope to see you all this weekend!

Valentine’s Date Ideas

Everyone’s favorite holiday that we love to hate is coming up: Valentine’s Day. Between the cards and candy, flowers and pre fix dinners, this Hallmark Holiday has a tendency to be over rated, overpriced, and underwhelming.  Every year I end up wracking my brain for a present for my significant other that he needs or wants, and ultimately spending more money than I had intended. This year, instead of creating a gift guide I thought I would come up with some fun Valentine’s date ideas that you and your sweetie can do on V-day or any other day of the week for that matter.

  1. Cooking Classes. What’s better than going out to dinner? Going out and learning to cook a new recipe with your main squeeze. Check out Charleston Cooks!  schedule for class options. V-Day might be full, but it can always be a later gift to each other, especially if you are one of those couples that doesn’t like to celebrate your love on Valentine’s Day!CharlestonCooks3
  2. Boat ride and Picnic.  As of now, the weather on Valentine’s Day is supposed to be 62 and partly sunny. Pack up your picnic basket and hop on the boat to head to Dewees Island or Capers Island. My picnic basket would include Govino wine glasses, a bottle of my favorite red, charcuterie board staples, and crackers!Picnic
  3. Take a stroll on the beach and then head to dinner on Sullivan’s Island. I suggest a casual meal at Home Team BBQ or Poe’s Tavern.  My boyfriend and I go to Home Team almost once a week, and we always order nachos and wings. fieryronsfacade_54_990x660_201405312336
  4. Cooking at HomeEpicurious has a list of Valentine’s Day menus. Peruse through the list and choose a fancy meal to cook in the comfort of your home. If you don’t feel like trying hard, but want to impress, use the Engagement Chicken recipe that plenty of people swear by (Note: cooking this chicken could lead to engagement)364889_engagement-chicken_1x1
  5. Dinner Out- If you want to dive into the Valentine’s Day spirit then make a reservation and head out to one of the many places offering prix fixe menu. High Cotton will serve a three-course prix fixe menu for $48. “Love potion” and wine options include La Marca Prosecco, a Valentine’s Day Chocolate Martini, and Billecart-Salmon Burt Reserve Champagne. Another option is Old Village Post House where you can enjoy a neighborhood style Valentine’s Day menu for $36 or $42 to add dessert.

Hope these Valentine’s Date ideas help you plan a special day for your babe.  Any day with your significant other, or any loved ones for that matter, is a day to celebrate. Enjoy each other’s company, eat way too much chocolate, and stick to the funny cards!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
